The Italian Society for Celiac Disease (AIC) is the first Italian charity aimed at funding the Italian research on celiac disease and dermatitits herpetiformis.
Since 2013 AIC promotes high quality Italian research by granting Projects by mean of the national call for proposals system, thus becoming the first Italian charity in the field of CD.
The development of the national call for proposals system led to two main issues: 1) the improvement of the peer-review procedure, and 2) the creation of a web platform for researchers and reviewers to manage the funding process.
AIC does believe that the Peer Review process represents an essential part in the promotion of high quality research, and has built up a group of International Peer Reviewers all over the world, especially USA and Europe, who guarantee that the funded research is the most relevant in the field of celiac disease and related topics.
Two kinds of national calls for proposals were developed with different aims and funding procedures:
- The Investigator Call for Proposals
- The Fellowship Call for Proposals
THE TYPOLOGIES OF AIC CALL FOR PROPOSALS
These Calls are aimed at awarding excellent Research Projects presented by highly qualified senior researchers (Principal Investigator Applicant) with proved and recognized international expertise in the field of celiac disease and/or dermatitis herpetiformis. The Project Proposals selected for funding are carried out by the Principal Investigators in a public or a private non-profit Italian research institute/organisation (Hosting Institute) where the Principal Investigators are already affiliated.
These Calls are aimed at awarding Triennial Fellowships to highly qualified young graduates and/or post-doctoral fellows who wish to broaden or acquire experience in scientific research within the field of Celiac Disease and Dermatitis Herpetiformis in public or private non-profit Italian research institutes/organizations.
The Triennial Fellowship Programmes are carried out under the supervision of the Head of the Hosting Lab who is an investigator with proved experience in the field of Celiac Disease and/or Dermatitis Herpetiformis.
